Senior Consultant: Jorge L. Lopez Ph.D., P.E.

Dr. Lopez is a registered Chemical Engineer who started his career in the petrochemical industry and soon decided to earn his PhD in Chemical and Biochemical Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania. Upon completion of his graduate studies, Dr. Lopez joined the faculty of Chemical Engineering at the University of Puerto Rico engineering campus. At the University he championed the creation if the Industrial Biotechnology program of studies which today provides the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries in Puerto Rico and abroad with some of the best-educated professionals.

In 1986, Dr. Lopez joined a small venture-capital company in Massachusetts called Sepracor (www.sepracor.com). During his tenure at Sepracor he held a number of positions ranging from Senior Research Engineer to Director of Process Research and Development, Chiral Chemicals Division. In his R& D role, Dr. Lopez published a significant number of papers and is a named inventor in 7 patents.

After 11 years at Sepracor, Dr. Lopez decided to return to Puerto Rico in 1997 where he joined IPR Pharmaceuticals as Technical Services manager. In this new role, Dr. Lopez managed a staff of 15 professionals in charge of overseeing all validation and qualification activities, change control systems, technology transfer of new products, and computer control systems.

After successfully completing facilities qualification and process validation for two new products, Dr. Lopez left IPR Pharmaceuticals to join Schering-Plough Products as Director of Chemical Operations. In this role, Dr. Lopez was responsible for a department with a staff of 120 employees manufacturing over 50 different active pharmaceutical ingredients and intermediates.

Looking to leverage his strong process R&D, technical management, regulatory affairs, and communication skills, Dr. Lopez decided to start Veronica Consulting P.S.C. in October 2003.
